A Better World by Design
A Better World by Design is a three-day conference at Brown University and RISD that cultivates a global community of socially-conscious and passionate innovators.
A Better World by Design is a three day, student-run conference that draws 700 students and professionals from around the world to Providence, RI where we galvanize a community of socially conscious designers.
I worked with A Better World by Design for two years, organizing our media and tech from 2011 to 2012, and co-chairing the conference itself from 2012-2013.
Working with my co-chair, I led the 20 student planning committee for a year, heading the design, fundraising, logistical and content teams. Over the summer of 2013, I led a smaller group of paid committee members to push the conference farther than it has ever gone in its 6 year history.
The work of our committee is supported by many generous sponsors, the Brown and RISD administrations and several professional advisors. In 2013, ABWxD was accepted into the CV Starr Fellowship of the Swearer Center for Public Service at Brown University. This fellowship provided us financial and institutional support for our work throughout the year.
We were thrilled to sell the 2013 conference out completely, and ultimately hold the most vibrant, energetic ABWxD Conference to date. We had representation of countries around the globe, and students from over 64 colleges and universities. Over the course of the three day conference, we saw so many new relationships and ideas formed, and as a committee, we're so excited to see these partnerships continue to develop.
